Trudeau Dives into Summer

Cool off with a splash of good news from the Trudeau Center!

We've submerged ourselves and our clients into a refreshing Rhode Island summer with trips to parks and beaches, a fruitful gardening club, Special Olympics victories, and so much more!

Trudeau is fiercely committed to our mission to enhance the quality of life for individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities and thank our supporters and employees for our many triumphs.

Pathways Celebrates Good Times

Pathways, Trudeau’s education and treatment program for children with autism and related disorders, has been having a banner year.

Transition Coordinator Amy Stone was awarded a 2022 Dougie Award from the Flutie Foundation. This monetary award is presented to people who make a positive difference in the autism community and Amy donated her award money right back to Pathways!

The Flutie Foundation also gave Pathways a 2022 technological grant that purchased a new ViewSonic ViewBoard, a useful educational tool for kids like Gavin (above) who LOVE the hands-on approach to learning.

And the excellent news does not stop! Pathways received a generous grant from the John E. Fogarty Foundation that is being used for memberships and tickets to local attractions and classes. Students are attending zoos, practicing yoga, and attending community events, thanks to this community-focused grant.

Trudeau Group Homes Flourish

Summer is sparking all sorts of fun activities at our group homes. The folks in our homes are relishing trips to Rhode Island landmarks, creating art projects, and cooking homemade meals. Our weekly gardening club is a huge hit and as we watch our sunflowers grow, everyone’s spirits soar.

Special Olympics Summer Games

After a two-year hiatus, in June the Special Olympics Rhode Island Summer Games returned to the University of Rhode Island. The Opening Ceremony was hosted by Trudeau friend Mike Montecalvo and included an introduction to the teams, the lighting of the Special Olympics Cauldron, and a scheduled fly-over. The athletes, volunteers, and leaders were so excited to be back in person.

Thanks to the Trudeau Tigers for inspiring everyone with their athleticism and to employee Jessica Keenan for her leadership.

And bravo to Senator Michael McCaffrey for a legislative grant that covered the purchase of our new shirts!

Thanks, Bill Bryan

The Trudeau Center Board recently recognized the significant service of our longest-serving director, Mr. William “Bill” Bryan.

The Board honored Bill as an honorary director, and as a tireless advocate for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Trudeau President and CEO Judith A. Sullivan presented Bill with a framed hummingbird photo that was taken by Kathy Gudmundson, a Trudeau client and the photographer behind the camera at Kathy Gudmundson Photography.

Trudeau President and CEO Makes Us Proud

On May 25, Trudeau Center President and CEO Judith A. Sullivan was a guest speaker at a health and human services-focused legislative Meet & Greet at The Public Kitchen & Bar in Providence.

Judith was one of four Rhode Island women leaders who spoke to a room filled with many RI General Assembly members. She spoke passionately about the countless ways that the Trudeau Center honors its mission to enhance the quality of life for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Thank you to the Rhode Island Senators and Representatives who took the time and listened to the disability community share stories about the strengths and challenges in human services. Trudeau is thrilled that long-term rate reform legislation was recently passed and that we and other agencies will be positively impacted by this welcome reform for years to come!

Thanks for reading.
